Before and After
Title
Technically, there are the three bedrooms in the house: two on the second floor and one on the main floor. The room on the main floor was usually referred to by Sandy and Maryse as “the den”. During the time the house was on the market, this room was staged as an office. The ladies did this in order to show the versatility of the rooms in the house. In terms of upgrades, this room received in-wall speakers and refinished floors.

Sandy: There are three bedrooms in the house, including the room we staged as an office. All of these rooms have two windows, which is just a really nice feature. So we just wanted to let them shine. We took off all the old blinds and old curtains and decided not to put anything back. If you put coverings on them, do you notice them as much?

Maryse: When we bought this house it had all been freshly painted and we liked the colour; it was neutral, so it was a bonus for us that we didn’t have to repaint every room.

Sandy: When we first saw the floors, we actually thought they were salvageable. We liked them and they were in good condition and we thought it’s a lot of money to refinish floors, a lot of work, and a lot of mess. When we realized how much traffic we were going to put through this house and how much diligence it was going to take to try and baby these floors and get them through in one piece, we decided that we’ve got to be free to work and then we’ll refinish them. Because they were old, they had never been refinished so there was lots of wood there to do. We got the quote and it allowed us to make an informed decision.

Maryse: It wouldn’t have made sense to have kept them the way they were because everything else was changed and new and fresh. It would have been so obvious that it was old varnish on the floors.
